"Not Here to F*ck Spiders" – that's the title of this blog. If you're wondering what it means, it's an Australian expression and a call to action. Life's too short, so let's get down to business. And that's exactly what this blog is about: giving you value by helping you get down to business in your work and life.
Since 2006, I've been working in an area I call Service-Network Leadership. It's a way of thinking and acting that helps you create more value, impact, and satisfaction in your work. It's based on the idea that we all participate in service networks, and that we can work better together with the right mindset. Our mindset is everything!
This blog isn't for academic or corporate audiences. That's covered with my company. Instead, this blog is for anyone who wants to understand and use the best practices when it comes to working with other people.
How do I know there's value here? Because I've been applying it and teaching it for years, and using it in many different projects and situations. Here are some personal examples:
This is my consulting business, founded in 2006 when Po Chung made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Since then, I've helped companies and professionals improve their Service-Network Leadership mindset. My clients have come from various industries and sectors, including hospitality, education, technology, luxury brands, electronics, manufacturing, legal and finance, NGOs, and many more.
This is my podcast, where I interview people who have amazing stories to tell about life, work, and creativity. The name comes from digital photography, where shooting in RAW format means capturing the image as it is, without any filters or edits. That's how I approach my conversations: raw, honest, and authentic. I ask my guests what if life really is a gift? How do they make every second count? How do they align their work with their purpose and passion? This is clearly linked to the values of we're not here to f*ck spiders.
From 2009 to 2016, I ran Shark Rescue with the mission to protect the oceans by protecting sharks. Thanks to supporters from around the world, we raised awareness and action about the plight of sharks and the importance of healthy oceans. We used social media, events, petitions, and partnerships to spread our message and influence change. We got featured in major media outlets like the New York Times, BBC World, South China Morning Post, and many others, and most importantly helped raise awareness and change attitudes towards sharks and the environment.
What's in it for you?
Those were a few examples of how I've used Service-Network Leadership in my own work and life. And I want to share with you some of the key lessons and insights that I've learned along the way.
In the next 13 posts, I'll cover core concepts and principles from Service-Network Leadership. Stuff you can use for yourself. I'll explain what they are, why they matter, and how you can apply them in your own work and life.
My goal is to make this blog useful, practical, and engaging for you. I want you to learn something new, get inspired, and take action. I want you to join me so you can become the great human the world needs and deserves!
